Fauna

In this area inhabits the pronghorn, which is one of the few species of animals characteristic of antelopes. There is also a great variety of reptiles. In mountainous areas you can find the bighorn sheep. There are mammals such as jackrabbits, rabbits, coyotes, deer, and American cougars.

Flora

The vegetation is formed by plants from arid zones; In the region (desert zone) there are thickets and grasslands and in the rest of the municipality short bushes, such as cardones, garambuIlos, torotes, pitahayas and palo blanco. At the mercy of the two superficial hydraulic runoffs in San Ignacio and Mulegé, a great abundance of date palms can be found.

Climate

The region has various types of climate, from dry or desert climate, to very dry and desert; having the two semi-warm, cool winter and average annual temperature between 18° and 22°C; the rainfall regime includes the months of July to October, with most of the rainfall and the minimum corresponding to the months of December and February, respectively.

The fact of being crossed by a mountain range, determines that different climates are presented on the Gulf coast and on the Ocean coast. One factor that influences this difference is the winds that blow over both slopes, causing the temperature to be low on the pacific ocean side and high on the sea of cortez side, with some variations.

Geography
